Digital media and development: The challenges in Southeast Asia

While new media platforms impact positively on development, some governments in South East Asia are hindering voices of individual citizens by having a strong grip on all means of communication, particularly online and digital media, due to its capacity to turn things around. 6 years after this report was released, the digital media in the region is increasingly in danger of domination by governments and large organizations, hindering unique development initiatives in the process.
